One Easter, there was a little boy and girl out in
the field looking for some hidden eggs. When they found the
first egg, they saw something running past them. "Hey, did you
see that? Something is out there." asked the little girl.
"What?", asked the little boy. "I dunno, let's go see...
It was right here. I saw it!"

"Hurry!", cried the little girl. "It's really quick!" They zigged
and zagged, following the creature. Then they lost sight and sound
of it. "What do you think that *was*?" asked the little boy. "It
looked kinda furry. But I'm not sure. I hope we didn't scare it.
Maybe if we just sit here quietly, it might come back." So that's
what they did. They sat down on a sunny patch of grass and waited.
Pretty soon......

...a few of the other town children had came looking for hidden
eggs. They asked the boy and girl why they were sitting on the grass
and if they found any eggs. The children replied no eggs, but we saw
this furry creature go by quickly a couple of times. We thought if
we sat awhile, we might see it again. The other children thought of
different animals it might be like a squirrel or kitten moving fast
in the field. The boy and girl said no, it was different and moved
strangely. The children looked for eggs and gathered a few. They
called to the boy and girl to head back to town with them, because
the sun would set soon. As the boy and girl, the Carleton's
grandchildren, looked up toward the children, they spotted the
creature moving toward the stream by the Old Mill in the distance.
They began running toward it quickly, zigging and zagging rapidly
following it. They stopped in wonderment as it slipped and slided
quickly on stones across the stream. They could not believe what
they saw on the stones! They looked at each other questioning if
they should follow. Nodding their heads in agreement they gingerly
stepped on the slippery stones. They whispered to each other, as
they heard the other children calling out from near the field to
them, could it be? Is it really?

The two children were so inquisitive that they just had to follow.
They knew they really should go back into town with the other
children as it was getting late. But their curiosity got the best of
them. The other children's voices got fainter and fainter the
farther they followed the creature and the farther they got from
town. By now, the sun was beginning to set and the two children were
miles from home, but the only thing on their minds was the creature
that they had seen.

Megan & Mitchell were getting further and further into the woods. It
was getting darker and darker the deeper they went. But they just
couldn’t turn back; they just had to find out what it was that had
taken them so far into the woods. Megan told Mitchell to watch out
for the hole but it was too late and he stepped right into it. He
felt silly that a silly little hole took him to his knees but he got
up right away and said” I’m ok Megan, just a little hole. It did
look bigger when I stepped into it.” “I’m glad your ok Mitchell, Mom
and Dad would be really mad at us if we were hurt and late getting
home.” So off they went into the woods after this ziggin and zaggin
little creature. Finally, they came upon a clearing and it didn’t
look so dark, almost sunny. When…….

OOOOOHHHHHHHmmph! sounded Megan. "Megan! Are you alright? Are you
there?" Mitchell looked down the deep hole his sister just
disappeared in. Megan landed on a soft pillowy surface, it happened
so fast it took a minute for her to realize what happened. She
looked around...she was lying on what appeared to be big fluffy
purple marshmallows! She stood up...(with some difficulty...have you
ever tried to stand up on big marshmallows? Believe me its not
easy!) and looked around...the walls were covered in cute little
pink and yellow marshmallow peeps...and they were peeping at her!
The sound of Mitchell's voice pierced through her
astonishment..."Megan are you okay? I am coming!" and the next
minute he was lying at her feet....which made the marshmallows
wiggle and she fell next to him as they were being scooted about by
him as he tried to stand.

The children romped and played and time meant nothing to them. They
played for quite some time and then grew weary. They each slowed and
finally ~ giggling from exhaustion, fell asleep on the big, soft,
pillowy marshmallows. Sweet dreams came and then, with a start, a
bell rang, rousing the sleeping Megan and Mitchell, who wakened
sleepily, only to realize that they had been dreaming. "Wake up
darlings" called Grammy C. "Your parents will be here soon to get
you." The children rose and smelled the aroma of breakfast ~ eggs,
bacon, toast and jam ~ yummy!
From the other room Grampy C called "Come in here young 'uns!" "See
what was left for you this Easter morn." The children quickly washed
their hands and raced into the kitchen. There ~ waiting for them
was.....

grampa Carleton dressed in a bunny outfit, motioning them to follow
him. With excitement in their eyes, they raced around the yard
collecting colored eggs and treats, following the trail Grampy and
Grammy C had laid out for them. To their surprise they found at the
end of the trail, a big purple basket loaded with candy, games and
in the center, 2 little yellow chicks that Megan and Mitchell named
"Peeps" and "Peepers". Megan looked at Mitchell and said, "I guess
dreams do come true." And they both started giggling and continued
to play.
